A visit to Mount Morgan is simply a must if you're traveling through Central Queensland. Just a short 30 minute drive from Rockhampton, historic Mount Morgan was established as a gold mining town in 1882 and continued to produce gold, silver and copper for 99 years until the mine closed in 1981. Today, the historic Mount Morgan mine continues to dominate the landscape, a reminder of times past.
Visitors can experience a complete town tour taking in the traditional architecture and see the famous Mount Morgan open cut gold and copper mine. Explore the massive Fireclay Caverns and marvel at the dinosaur footprints on the ceiling that date back some 195 million years - an eerie reminder of prehistoric times.
